5 Causes of Farts from the Vagina

Women sometimes experience wind or farting when they have sex or exercise. This condition, although it is embarrassing, is not usually dangerous.

Farts from your vagina are also called queed. This is caused by air trapped in the vaginal cavity. This air can sometimes escape from the vaginal cavity and produce a sound similar to a fart.

What causes farting from the genital area

Every woman can experience vaginal farts. This condition is most common in women who are pregnant or have given birth.

Although it is embarrassing, most vaginal conditions are not serious. These are the causes of farting in the vagina:

1. Sexual activity

Air can get trapped in the vagina by the movement of the penis, fingers or sex toy during sexual activity.

The object will come out of the vagina and the muscles around it will contract, releasing air. This is why you get farts in your vagina.

2. Sports

Exercises that stretch the pelvic area may cause the vagina open, allowing air in. Air can escape from the vagina when the position of the body changes.

Yoga is one example of an exercise that can cause vaginal fets.

3. Weakness in the pelvic muscles

Gas from the vagina can be caused by weakness in the pelvic muscles or descent ( Uterine prolapse). This is more common in the elderly and women who have had multiple vaginal births.

4. Fistula vagina

Vaginal Fistula refers to the formation of an abnormal channel between your vaginal and other internal organs such as the bladder, rectum and small intestine. Vaginal fistulas can also be characterized by gas discharge from the vagina, particularly if it smells bad.

Vaginal fistulas may also lead to other symptoms such as:

  • Urinary Incontinence (difficulty holding a BAK)
  • Feces can be found in the urine and vagina.
  • Bad smelling urine or discharge
  • Vaginal inflammation or urinary tract infection
  • Pain in the vagina, rectum and surrounding areas
  • Pain during sex
  • Indigestion (including nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain)

5. Examen of the pelvic floor

Women who recently underwent a pelvic exam may also experience gas in their vagina. The reason for this is because a doctor inserts a device called a "speculum" into the vagina. This causes air to enter the body and becomes trapped.

To prevent farts from escaping your vagina, you can do Kegel exercises. Kegel exercises involve tightening your lower pelvic muscles.

A doctor should be consulted if you experience vaginal bleeding while not having sex, or engaging in certain activities. This is especially true if the condition occurs often or is accompanied with symptoms of vaginal infections.
